Use chalk to mark the areas where you want to cut through the brick.
Putting a door in a garage wall.
Leew2 18 mar 2011.
Run a stud finder across the wall perpendicular to the garage door on the right.
Check the fit before installing a new door and enlarge the opening as necessary.
When you cut the doorway you may end up with voids where you cut the bricks especially with frogged bricks laid frog down.
However the door frame should cover up any inperfections.
The opening should be two inches wider than the door frame and about an inch taller in height.
Add another set of marks across the top of the frame to represent a steel lintel that will support the load above the door.
Determine how tall and how wide you want the doorway to be.
If you are going to install a door into the frame take into account the exact dimensions of the door when you make your measurements on the wall.
Mark the opening size for the door on both sides of the wall.
Before you make your first cut double check the measurements.
Move the stud finder around until you find the stud in the wall that is nearest to the garage door.
Your garage will almost certainly be built with one of the above solid bricks do exist but are very unlikely to be used in a modern garage.
