I have been called to inspect a shower with ceramic tile walls. There are hairline cracks running through the tiles on all three walls both vertical and horizontal. In far more instances the crack was caused by anomalies under or around the tile. Polished porcelain tiles have a bright shine and an elegant finish.

Cracked tiles on floors and walls is a problem because it can be difficult to track down the source of the crack. Matte porcelain tiles work well in all areas of the home and can provide a more subtle look. Both high gloss porcelain tile and polished ceramic tile are easy to maintain and durable. They are stain resistant water resistant and can withstand heavy foot traffic. While most types of tile can handle a lot of abuse they are not indestructible and hairline cracks may occur.

Porcelain tile is a type of ceramic tile though it is made from finer denser clay and is fired at higher temperatures. Use them in place of limestone or other soft honed stone tiles for style. High gloss tile is a great choice to deliver affordable luxury. The substrate is cementitious backerboard and as far as i can tell the tile was installed with thinset.
