A pella storm door that is difficult to open or close may be the result of a faulty or misaligned door latch. Once you have a hole you can use a small flat blade screwdriver to push the latch over and open the door. If you cant get help from pella let me know and i will see if the lock is available. This loosens the tension in the hinges to make the door easier to open.

Once the mechanism has been released adjust stiff pella sliding door locks by loosening the screws holding the latching strikes on the inside of the door frame. Pry off the plastic covers loosen the screws and slide the strikes up or down a few millimeters. If the door hangs or doesn t latch the door latch is not properly aligned. The hinge rail runs vertically along the hinge side of the door.

If the handle must be lifted to open or close the door the hardware is upside down. You will very likely need a new lock as the spring inside has probably broken. The handle is moving freely on both sides and it appears to be unlocked but it just won t open. Click here to post comments.

I even walked around to the outside of the door and nothing. The door might be difficult to latch and release if the strikes are misaligned.
